Obesity and Pregnancy

Does your weight will affect pregnancy?

Most pregnant women have healthy babies, but also including women who are obese. But the chances will increase as a very heavy problem.

Born who are obese have a higher risk of the baby’s mother:

Birth defects such as heart defects orneural tube defects.
Is too large. This may cause problems during labor and delivery.
Mothers who are obese have a higher risk:

Problems during pregnancy, such as ashigh blood pressure, gestational diabetes or preeclampsia.
Higher cesarean section (or C section) from its birth and risk issues.
Miscarriage or stillbirth.
If you are not already pregnant, obesity also makes it difficult to become pregnant.

This is a terrible problem, which is common to worry about your baby’s health. However, obesity does not mean that you will have these problems. You can do many things to improve your chances of having a healthy pregnancy.

Cooperation with your doctor to get the services you need. All of you go to see a doctor and follow the doctor’s understanding, in order to avoid during pregnancy, what to do and what is opinion.

If you try to lose weight during pregnancy?

Number pregnancy is not the time to lose weight. Your baby needs you to eat a full diet. Do not cut out food groups or to any type of weight loss diet.

How much weight should be what you get during pregnancy?

Experts suggest that to get pounds.1 Your doctor will work with you to set a goal weight that best suits your obese women between 11-20. In some cases, your doctor may recommend a woman does not gain any weight.

Although pregnant women often joke that they are “eating for two,” You do not need to eat twice as much food. In general, pregnant women need to eat about 300 extra calories per day. You can sandwich or an apple, a cup of yogurt to get this.

Honey, I Am Not Pregnant, We Will Have To Keep Trying

Many couples have children as soon as they look at each other in a certain way, or so it seems. Lots of couples do have problems conceiving children. There are several possible reasons for this and several possible solutions to the problem.

Gone are the days of Britain’s Henry VIII who chopped off his wives’ heads if they failed to produce a child within a year. Nowadays people realize that this is a difficulty that is a shared one. If specialists find that one of the partners’ reproductive system is not working as it should then that person will need substantial support from their partner.

Most men do not have the Henry VII approach. Most will be willing to have tests done to determine a sperm count and to check on the activity of the sperm. This is usually the first step in determining the reason for lack of conception of a child because production of the sperm sample is very simple and certainly does not require invasive surgery.

Sperm counts can sometimes be increased by hormone supplements. Be aware that increasing testosterone levels will also cause increased aggressiveness in social situations. I knew a guy once in this situation and all his workmates breathed a sigh of relief when he announced his wife was pregnant.

Investigating the female reproductive system is much more complicated. That’s why there are gynaecologists for women and no equivalent for men. I am not going to go into the many vagaries of the menstrual cycle here. Following the advice of a gynaecologist will help many women to become pregnant.

There are other alternatives even after the specialist’s advice hasn’t worked. Test-tube babies are very common. I used to teach a teenager who was the UK’s first test-tube baby, she was just like every other girl in the class.

Eggs are removed from the woman’s ovaries and fertilized with her partner’s sperm, usually in flat petri dishes, rather than test-tubes. One of the fertilized eggs is then placed inside the woman’s uterus, where it will hopefully attach itself and develop normally. The rest of the fertilized eggs may be frozen, in case of failure the first time.

Things You Should Know About A Molar Pregnancy

Pregnancy is an exciting time for any woman, but with the many pregnancy complications out there, it can also be scary for first time mothers. It has been reported that one in every thousand pregnancies in the U.S. is a molar pregnancy, which makes it one of the most common pregnancy complications for women today.

What is a molar pregnancy?

This occurs when a sperm fertilizes an empty egg. Even though it’s empty, it continues to develop and a placenta is formed despite there being no fetus. The hormone HCG is also produced which fools the body into thinking that there is a pregnancy when there is only placenta.

A partial molar pregnancy occurs when two sperms fertilize an egg. However, instead of forming twins, in this type of pregnancy, something goes wrong and an abnormal fetus and placenta is developed instead. As there is double the sperm, the fetus receives too many chromosomes and instead may die in the womb.

Molar pregnancy symptoms

One of the first molar pregnancy signs you may notice is spotting which could lead to heavier bleeding. Depending on the severity of the case, the bleeding may start as early as 6 weeks into the pregnancy or as late as 12. Another common sign of this type of pregnancy is nausea, abdominal cramping and swelling. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and feel as though your pregnancy may be molar, don’t hesitate to consult your doctor.

Molar pregnancy treatments

A D&C (dilatation and curettage) will be used for treatment. This is a safe procedure in which a small vacuum is inserted into the uterus to remove the placental parts. However, great care must still be taken as not to provoke any excessive bleeding or blood clots. This type of pregnancy can recur as some women may just be prone to them. If this is the case and after your first such pregnancy, you have another, consult your doctor about special treatments to prevent this from happening again.

Molar pregnancies are a tragic way to lose a child, but having one does not mean you are never going to have another baby again. Make sure you are aware of molar pregnancy symptoms and regularly go to the doctor for consultations.

Common Pregnancy Complications

Complication during pregnancy is more common than most people think. Even for those who are healthy and have had children before, early pregnancy complications could arise, at no fault to anyone. This article explains some of these complications and what to watch out for.

Early pregnancy complications

When you find you are pregnant, the first thing you must do is go see your obstetrician/gynecologist. They will perform an ultrasound to make sure that your pregnancy is advancing as it should. Regular visits to your OBGYN will prevent early pregnancy complications or at the very least, help identify them at an early stage. The two most common pregnancy complications are:

Ectopic pregnancies

Ectopic pregnancies are one of the most common early complications. Ectopic pregnancies refer to pregnancies in which the egg is fertilized outside the womb so the fetus begins to develop in the ovary or in the fallopian tube. This can be very dangerous not only for the fetus but also for the mother. If surgery is not performed, the tubes could burst and result in internal bleeding and in some cases, even death.

Miscarriages

Complication during pregnancy can lead to miscarriages, another common early pregnancy complication. Sometimes the cervix can open causing heavy bleeding with intense cramping pains. Other times, the baby can die in early pregnancy. When this happens, the mother can either wait for a miscarriage to occur or have a D&C. There are many different complications during pregnancy that can cause this to happen: blood clotting, infection, structural problems, or lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol or high caffeine intake.

High risk pregnancy

A pregnancy that is categorized as high risk is one which has a higher chance of complications arising. You may be considered high risk if you are carrying multiple babies, have a long term illness such as diabetes, or are over the age of 35. If you are high risk, you may be asked to visit your obstetrician more regularly as the pregnancy will need to be more closely monitored than usual.

Pregnancy over 35

It is not uncommon for a woman’s fertility to be affected over the age of 30 and once you are pregnant, you must be aware that it is more common for complications to arise. The chances of your child bearing birth defects are significantly higher than those women who are under 30 and miscarriages also become more common in the first trimester of older pregnant women. For those over 35, there will also be an increased risk of diabetes and high blood pressure. Don’t worry, as with today’s technology, almost all these complications can be treated as long as they are spotted early on.

Multiple pregnancies

A multiple pregnancy is one in which there are two or more fetuses. It’s considered to be high risk because with more than one fetus, it has a higher chance of developing complications. Almost half of twins that are born are premature with extremely low birth weights and underdeveloped organs. This makes them very vulnerable and it is not uncommon for only one twin to survive. Twins who share a placenta could result in high amounts of amniotic fluids.

It is important to keep this information regarding early pregnancy complications in mind during pregnancy and to regularly consult your doctor.

Pregnancy Exercise And Diet Tips – Sensible Advice For Expectant Mothers

Pregnancy Exercise And Diet Tips – Sensible Advice For Expectant Mothers

Mothers-to-be have many questions about pregnancy nutrition and exercise. The tips and advice below will help you get started on a healthy pregnancy.

A diet containing the essential nutrients and vitamins are vital to the development of both mother and child. Vitamins are imperative to the health of a developing baby and the well being of the mother. Choosing foods that are rich in vitamins and other nutrients are a critical part of a healthy pregnancy nutrition plan and supplemental vitamins are necessary as well.

Follow a well-planned pregnancy diet to help avoid complications such as morning sickness, fatigue, anemia, and constipation. Your healthy diet must continue after pregnancy if you plan to breastfeed your baby.

Pregnancy food recommendations
  • Your pregnancy diet should include plenty of complex and unrefined carbohydrates as they contain important B vitamins, trace minerals, and fiber that are essential to a fit, healthy pregnancy.
  • Appropriate quantities of yellow and green leafy vegetables are vital for the growth of the baby and the health of the mother.
  • Dairy products contain calcium that will assist in the developing baby’s teeth and bones. If your diet is lacking calcium your body will draw calcium from your bones to meet it’s increased need.
  • Avoid excessive amounts of fat must be avoided during pregnancy, as it will only serve to add excess pounds, which will be hard to lose after the birth of your baby.
  • Vitamin C in generous amounts is crucial to a healthy pregnancy, bone growth, and various metabolic processes. Including berries, citrus fruits, raw broccoli and cabbage can help provide you with the Vitamin C that you need.
Ideally, your pregnancy diet should include 3-4 servings of protein and meat, 2-4 servings of fruit, 6-11 servings of grains, 4-6 servings of dairy products, and 6-8 glasses of water, milk, and juice. A pregnant mother must follow a healthy diet that will benefit the developing baby but that will also maintain her general health as well.

Exercise recommendations during pregnancy

Exercise during pregnancy will promote strength, muscle tone, and endurance. Regular activity during your pregnancy will help alleviate swelling, fatigue, and backache. If you expect to remain fit during your pregnancy you will need to work your heart and major muscle groups. The type of exercise you do during your pregnancy will depend on your fitness level prior to pregnancy. Walking, pregnancy yoga videos, and swimming are excellent pregnancy exercises combined with stretching and other low-impact activities.

Exercises that involve a risk of falling or injury should be avoided such as bicycling, racket sports, horseback riding, and skiing. You will need to alter your exercise routine from trimester to trimester to accommodate your growing body. Avoiding over-exertion is necessary to avoid complications such as faintness, dizziness, vaginal bleeding, and premature contractions. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercising to reduce the risk of dehydration, which can raise your body temperature and cause harm to yourself and/or your baby.

A regular exercise program is beneficial to both mother and child, but check with your health care provider to make sure you have no conditions or risks that will prevent you from participating in a regular exercise routine or could cause potential harm to yourself or your child.

Benefits Of Pregnancy Massage

Whilst pregnancy is a time for a mother to really bond with the child she is carrying, it can also cause all sorts of physical aches and pains. As your pregnancy progresses and your stomach enlarges, the backaches and joint sores will only get worse. Having a massage can greatly alleviate these pains and is something all pregnant mothers should consider.

What is a pregnancy massage?

Having a massage during pregnancy differs from a normal massage as the masseuse performing the massage will need to have special knowledge of the body. Pregnant mothers are very sensitive and masseurs will need to be careful when giving massages as to not harm the baby in any way. The positioning of the mother and the intensity of the massage is very important.
Relieve stress

Pregnancy can be a time of stress. You are constantly worrying about the act of giving birth, your body, your child’s health, being a parent, etc. The last thing you need to deal with is a sore back. Going for a massage during pregnancy will help you get your mind off things and de-stress. If you are still early on in your pregnancy, you may want to go visit a spa with your girlfriends. For those who are over four or five months pregnant, you will have to enlist the aid of a professional pregnancy and postpartum masseuse. These professionals are well trained and should be qualified to perform massages for expectant mothers.

Muscle relief

During some point in your pregnancy, you will experience a large amount of muscular cramping, tightening, stiffness, tension and knots. A massage will alleviate these discomforts and will help with backaches, headaches or swollen feet or legs by increasing the blood circulation. This is beneficial not only to the mother but to the fetus, as well as leaving you refreshed and more energized. Massage will also help with muscle flexibility, which is crucial when giving birth and will also prove to be beneficial during the last trimester.

Pregnancy masseurs recommend that pregnant mothers have a pregnancy massage at least once a month. This is to keep them revitalized and ready for the actual birth. No matter how far along you are, a massage during pregnancy is sure to keep you and your baby healthy and happy.

Tips To Help Pregnant Women Reduce Morning Sickness

The dreaded ‘morning sickness’, extreme nausea and vomiting, will affect around 90% of pregnant women. Just why women have to go through this is not known, but there are some things you can do to minimise this unpleasant part of pregnancy.

  1. Ask your medical advisor whether you can take vitamin B6. A dose of approximately 100 mg per day has been shown to reduce the feeling of nausea.
  2. Eat foods rich in the B vitamins: examples are nuts, chicken, fish, liver and advocados.
  3. Take frequent sips of liquids such as water, soup, tea, and lemonade. This can help in two ways: when you vomit you loose a lot of fluids and it is important to keep your body hyderated at all times; and it also makes vomiting less unpleasant if you have something to bring up. Vomiting when the stomach is empty is even more unpleasant than when you have something to bring up.
  4. Avoid foods with strong smells such as spicy or fried foods as such dishes can make you feel queasy and induce vomiting.
  5. Snack little and often. When you go to bed place biscuits or muffins at your bedside and nibble these if you wake in the night.
  6. Foods high in carbohydrates are more likely to stay down and will ward off hunger. Recommended foods are breads, rice and pasta.
  7. If you don’t feel like eating, don’t. If eating will make you feel queasy and cause you to vomit, there is no point. You will not benefit nutritionly if the food comes straight back up.
Morning sickness is the least enjoyable part of being pregnant. How long it lasts varies from women to women. Just keep reminding yourself that it will end.

How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?

If you’re pregnant, you’re very likely concerned about the amount of weight you’re gaining, the effect it has on your body, even how difficult it will be to take off after your pregnancy. Your OB/GYN or midwife is your best source of advice about healthy weight gain during pregnancy, but there are general guidelines.

Depending on your weight at the start of your pregnancy, your doctor may tell you that a healthy weight gain for you is anywhere between 15 and 40 pounds. If you’re underweight to start (a BMI of less than 18.5), 25 to 40 pounds is a reasonable weight gain during pregnancy. If you’re overweight, he or she may suggest you stick closer to 15 to 25 pounds. Of that weight, 6 to 8 pounds of it is the baby. The rest is amniotic fluid, extra tissue and blood to nourish the baby (including the placenta), and the increased size of your breasts and placenta. You’ll lose as much as 15 pounds of it WITH the birth (amniotic fluid, placenta and baby).

Any doctor will tell you that pregnancy is NOT the time to go on a diet. Your body AND your baby need the nutrients of an adequate, balanced diet to keep you both healthy. This doesn’t mean that you should throw all your restraint to the winds and ‘eat for two’, though. Your body needs approximately an extra 300 calories a day to build a healthy baby. Those 300 calories should come from the same healthy variety of foods that your normal diet gives you. (You were eating a healthy, balanced diet, weren’t you? If not, pregnancy is a great time to start.)

You can expect to gain weight along a fairly predictable pattern. In the first three months, you’ll gain 2-4 pounds altogether. During the second trimester, you can expect to gain between 3-4 pounds a month (about a pound per week). During the last three months, you’ll gain an additional 8-10 pounds. Your doctor or midwife will weigh you regularly, and may express concern over a deviation from this pattern. A sudden sharp weight gain, for instance, can indicate pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes.

If your doctor advises you to try to limit your weight gain during your pregnancy, be sure to choose a healthy diet that provides all the necessary daily requirements for vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Remember that a ‘diet’ during pregnancy isn’t meant to help you LOSE weight, but rather to limit the amount of weight gained.

Regular exercise is also good for both you and your baby. You can maintain most of your daily activities, and if regular workouts were a part of your daily routine, then by all means keep them up. You’ll feel better, and your body will be less likely to protest the extra weight with aches and pains. Do keep in mind that exercise during pregnancy shouldn’t be overly strenuous, and that you should avoid activities with a risk of falling or injury. Also remember that your center of balance is different – it may feel awkward to do the things you usually do while you’re carrying your little bundle of joy.

For specifics with regard to your own situation, speak with your doctor or midwife. If you’re concerned about gaining weight, or feel that you’re gaining too much, you can ask for a consultation with a nutritionist to help you design a healthy eating plan that will make sure the baby is well-nourished, and your concerns about your weight are met.

Prenatal Massage

Pains and aches are part and parcel of every pregnancy. Physical discomfort, muscular tensions, headaches, backaches, pains occur due to increase in weight, shifting posture and hormone levels. Pre natal massages aim to improve circulation, alleviate aches and pains, eases muscular tensions and other pregnancy related symptoms, perking up expectant mother’s mood and mental attitude.

Stress related areas which demand attention are back, neck and shoulder. Massaging the legs reduces blood pooling and full body massage to the head/scalp, feet, hands and face area provides relief from tensions and aches. All the areas should be massaged gently and pressure should be applied when needed.

Experienced masseurs pick ways that are safe and effective and provide special pampering and comfort. Prenatal massage offers encompasses a broad range of benefits such as:
  • Increases circulation
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces fatigue
  • Reduces swelling in hands and lower legs, fewer calf cramps
  • Eases backaches, headaches, shoulder and neck aches caused due to muscular tension and postures to accommodate the increasing weight.
  • Lessens pain in the pelvic/hip area
  • Alleviates stress on weight bearing joints such as knees, ankle and lower back
  • Promotes relaxation and deep breathing
  • Reduces stress hormones
  • Decreased insomnia
  • Helps in maintaining proper posture
Prenatal massage during pregnancy is beneficial emotionally as it allows soon to be moms to unwind, feel calm, healthy and comforted during the period of physical and emotional stress.

Prenatal massage can be done in different ways. Expectant moms mostly lie on their sides. A newly designed pillow especially for expecting mothers is available. This pillow has deep center cutout enabling the moms to lie flat on their bellies making them relaxed and comfortable. Lying flat on back reduces circulation of blood to the mother and child; pillows are used to keep the mother’s body in elevated position. Body pillows are used for side lying positions too.

After delivery, new moms are under all kind of emotional and physical stress, especially sleep deprivation. Post partum massage is therapeutic, helping the body to return to its normal state by adjusting to the physical and emotional demands of their little one.

Massage is usually safe for most mothers, though it is advisable to check with your doctor prior to getting one. If you have high BP or diabetes, prenatal massage is not recommended. It is ideal that you tell your therapist if you any problems or complications with your pregnancy. Duration of the massage can be anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour. It depends on how much discomfort you are experiencing and how much time you have on hand. Massage once a week during 2nd trimester and twice a week or more during 3rd trimester are ideal.

Is Your Pregnancy Exercise SAFE for baby?

There is no doubt that pregnancy exercises both excellent and necessary for you to do now that your looking out for two (unless your doctor has told you otherwise!).

Exercise will help you reduce your pregnancy related symptoms, manage your weight gain and speed up your post-partum recovery time. However, you MUST make sure that whatever you choose to do is SAFE for both you and your baby.

I exercised during my pregnancy, but I only chose to do exercises that I enjoyed doing – like walking and swimming. I particularly liked swimming because it was non-weight bearing and it cooled me off (which was a huge help for my pregnancy-related overheating!).

For those of you who are looking for more than just swimming or walking, I’ve picked 5 questions from my subscribers that look at various pregnancy exercises and ask the question, “Is this exercise SAFE?”.

(Please note: all of the following opinions assume that the subscriber has been given the OK to exercise by her family practitioner.)

Subscriber Question #1:
“As a fitness instructor, how long I can continue doing high impact movements?”

My Opinion:
I’m assuming that because you’re a fitness instructor you’re in good shape, which would make it okay to continue exercising during your pregnancy at a moderate intensity level – around 70-75% of your maximum heart rate (if you’re not in good shape, aim for around 60-65%!).

However, I’m not a big fan of high impact movements (i.e. jumping, step class etc.) because they can be jarring on your joints (which are already carrying a big enough load). Also, your center of gravity changes, which means you’re going to be much more likely to fall or injure yourself.

So, I recommend sticking to low-impact exercises, like swimming. You’ll find it better on your body – especially when your tummy starts getting bigger!

Subscriber Question # 2:

“Now that I’m pregnant, can I run up and down my stairs for exercise?”

My Opinion:
Good question! Although most of us have stairs in our house or office, I wouldn’t recommend it for a workout. Running up and down stairs umpteen times may seem like an easy pregnancy exercise to do, but it’s really quite strenuous. You have to be in very good shape – believe me, I used to get my elite athletes to do this!

Choosing stairs instead of an elevator, however, is not a bad idea if you’re just looking for a little activity here and there (just be close to the railing in case you lose your balance!).
For a more suitable workout, put on your running shoes and go for a brisk walk.

Subscriber Question #3:

“Can I do abdominal work to keep control over my love handles (fat on the sides of my tummy)?”

My Opinion:
I know you’re not going to like my answer, but now’s NOT the time to worry about your love handles. Although certain experts say that abdominal work is safe during pregnancy, I wouldn’t recommend it. Rather concentrate on core strengthening exercises (including training your transverse abdominal muscles – the deep ones!) and wait until after your baby is born to work on toning your tummy!

Now that doesn’t mean that you should let go of yourself, sit on the couch and eat the house – no way! It means take care of yourself, keep active, eat healthy foods – and you’ll have LESS of a job taking it off after you deliver.

Subscriber Question #4:

“I’m very worried about putting on excess weight, can I still do my 1-hour a day workout consisting of Body Combat, Body Attack, dancing and running?”

My Opinion:
The general rule regarding exercise during pregnancy is that you CAN continue to do what you were doing pre-pregnancy as long as you lower your intensity to a moderate level.

I’m not quite sure what Body Combat and Body Attack classes are, but if they’re high impact (jumping) and aggressive (hitting), I’d recommend you trying something else. Exercises like the elliptical trainer, low impact aerobics, or deep water running (a very tough exercise when you’ve got the right form!) are better choices.

Pregnancy is not the time to try and improve your fitness level – rather it’s the time to maintain your existing level as best you can (remember, you’re now working for two!).

Subscriber Question #5:

“Is it possible to tone my lower body while I’m pregnant?”

My Opinion:
YES! Some great exercises that you can do now to tone your lower body are lunges, inner thigh squeezes, leg extensions, and bum raises off the ball.

Now you’re not going to be doing intense legwork, so you probably won’t see drastic results. But every little bit helps and it WILL make you feel a whole lot better about the way you look (trust me!).

I would however be cautious about other pregnancy exercises – for example, avoid anything that puts pressure on your back, like the leg press machine!

Choosing Maternity Bras For Maximum Comfort And Support

If you are new to pregnancy and breastfeeding, you may be a little overwhelmed with the commitments of motherhood. Although this may feel like unknown territory, it is not as difficult as it may seem. For example, in choosing maternity bras, many of the same factors apply as regular bras. However, there are a few new considerations to keep in mind.

The key to choosing maternity bras is finding something that is comfortable and supportive. Because your breasts grow considerably during pregnancy and breastfeeding, you need something that can hold up to the challenge. If you have relatively small breasts, this will not be as difficult. However, the larger your breasts are, the harder it is to find something that will work effectively.

Typically, maternity bras that have wide straps are more supportive; this applies to shoulder straps as well as the torso band. While most women prefer something that is pretty, it really is more important to get something that works. Luckily, many of the maternity bras on the market today are attractive as well as effective. You just may have to look a little harder to find them. If possible, you should try on a few maternity bras before purchasing. Take into consideration that your body and breasts will continue to grow through pregnancy, that a lot of that weight will drop at birth, and that your breasts will continue to grow when breastfeeding.

Most maternity bras open to allow for breastfeeding. When you try on the bras, you should play with this feature and see how easily you can remove the breast. This may seem unnecessary, but when you are holding a baby with one hand and trying to open the bra with the other, you will understand why this is important! Complicated latches or awkward positioning will be a major hindrance when trying to breastfeed.

There are many places to purchase maternity bras. Many of the stores you are accustomed to shopping at, however, may not carry them. Shop around and visit several retail shops and maternity stores to widen your options. Shopping online is also a convenient option. You may want to check local stores, though to try on some of the brands available.

Although you will want super-supportive maternity bras for day wear, you may also want to consider a more comfortable version for night wear. Most breastfeeding women can not go without a bra, as the weight of the breast may cause them to leak. On the other hand, few women want to wear a restrictive bra all day. Find a looser, more natural bra to sleep in that still allows for easy feeding.

Bleeding in the first weeks of pregnancy

The last thing you want to do when you find out you're pregnant is a blood stain on your underwear. However, this does not always indicate bleeding or spotting that something is wrong with the pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is different, and you should talk to your doctor if you think you do not feel well. Before you panic, first let's look at the bloodstains. What color are they? If they are brown (dark brown), it is said that these spots correspond to old blood and probably due to the process of implantation of the embryo during pregnancy. Usually this type of staining occurs in the first six weeks of gestation.

Now if you're bleeding red, it indicates the presence of fresh blood. Here you do need to be alert, because it is not considered normal during pregnancy. Call your doctor immediately (do not wait a minute longer).

Second, do you feel any pain? If you have cramps, then you can relax. But if the bleeding, however slight, is accompanied by severe pain in the lumbar area (lower back), we again insist that you consult a doctor.

If you feel pain and stitches in the uterine area, that's different; while gestation in pregnancy progresses, your uterus needs to grow to accommodate the baby, so that kind of pain is not cause for alarm.

Third, the flow of these blood spots is abundant or intermittent? That is, you need to use a sanitary napkin or are smearing a little blood only? When it is mild, stay calm, especially if coffee. But as a general rule, a more abundant flow of blood may be cause for concern, especially if it is bright red.

Now, if there are cases of women who have had a mini menstruation the first weeks of pregnancy, but this has not affected the baby. Only a doctor can check how follows the pregnancy, so it is necessary to consult if you have a steady flow.

Unfortunately, if you're bleeding very profusely, it is not a good sign and experts say that there is nothing to do in most cases. But we repeat: each case is different. There is a low percentage of pregnant women who bleed a lot at first but ultrasound (or ultrasound) performed transvaginal the baby's heartbeat is checked and is believed that the bleeding could be due to a twin who was not further developed.

In any case, we always recommend consulting a specialist when some kind of vaginal bleeding occurs during pregnancy. Either because the embryo is settling in your uterus or for some other reason, it is better to alert your doctor so you can determine what the next steps.

Pregnancy is not easy, that is the say I've had three.

The first pregnancy was a real test for my endurance and although it was the one that took more risks, was also that I took calmer of the three.

The calm that gives ignorance

Despite having all the symptoms, it never occurred to me I might be in a state of weightlessness. In fact postponed for weeks my appointment with the gynecologist from overwork. I assumed that my discomfort was due just to stress and workload.

A couple of days before the appointment gine, I began to feel strange and I became a test of pharmacy pregnancy. I swore I was going to be negative, it just had my period, but rare period to end.

The first surprise was the two-run test, really did not believe it and thought that after a while he would erase one of the hairlines.

I decided to keep the excitement until I confirm with my doctor by ultrasound, but one day before the appointment I had a new bleeding, as if I had cut my hand, blood looked red and fresh, very different from bleeding from previous days. And last but not least had colic.

After a couple of calls I was back in my home with a pill, an injection and a suppository. I was in bed one day with the soil pressure thanks to drugs to slow, contractions.

Indeed, she was pregnant and had had a threatened abortion, as a slight loosening of the bag where the kids of the uterus grow noticeable.

I was sent a week of rest and medicine. My first thought was "nature is wise, if not for me that baby, nothing happens and I will not do dramas" total was not in my plans to be mother at the time of my life.

After that week I returned to my normal and the month again, pum, Another bleeding! That thing was more delicate because detachment could be serious.

And by then there was the illusion of having a baby, so drove me crazy emotions of anxiety, guilt and fear. I saved a week of complete bed. In fact medical instruction was "do not stop or the bathroom.

After those two scares, things happened with some calm, because history could not exercise, or even fingerprints or eye. Nothing.

I felt that yoga would be enough to prepare for childbirth. No, farther from reality could not be even remotely prepared.

He arrived the day of delivery and I had no idea what was what was going to live nor how he had to react, do, say or think.

And then I lost control. My dream ended in a Caesarean delivery, yoga and breathing I forgot completely. My emotions were a runaway flow that would directly tailspin.

Between pain, fear and ignorance I became a spectator of the birth of my first child, instead of being the protagonist of this momentous event of my life.

I remember clearly that saw things like a movie in slow motion, a blur, very fast, with images that come and go, but it was a little drugged by anesthesia and a little adrenaline to the event so I was living.

Fortunately my son was born perfect, no medical complications and my recovery turned out to be amazing, quick and almost painless.

What was not perfect was to let me steal my labor thanks to the huge amount of oxytocin more they put me. What was not perfect was to let my son will be seven hours before seeing him again. What was not perfect was let give him milk formula rather than arrest him my boob.

Of course I did not know that all this could be different, that would be otherwise.

My second pregnancy was a completely different story to tell you next week.

My second pregnancy, with all information

My second pregnancy, with all information - After three years we decided we did not want Matt to grow alone in this world so rude, so I went to the doctor to get me the IUD and three months later was jumping with joy, she was pregnant again.

From that moment I decided I was going to do anything different. First of all was to find out about other forms of birth. There are many things I do not know, but what was absolutely certain is that not going to let treat me as if I were sick. And of course could not go back to just take yoga for pregnant, it was not enough for me.

I knew I wanted to take a psychoprophylactic course, I confess I had no idea what exactly was a course of those, but always heard that you had to take one if you were pregnant.

I finally managed to communicate with a charge, he gave me the information, location and told me that they were about to finish the sessions and that in a month would begin again the course, to wait for me about three weeks to take the course from the beginning. He also told me that apart from the course for couples, also gave exercise classes and independent breaths course and invited me to take one. I attended and was delighted with the deal, warmth and kindness with which I was treated.

They spent three weeks and then began Wednesday nights my favorite! I discovered a completely unknown universe. I discovered that my previous doctor had lied to me about many things like that if you break the source have only eight hours for the baby, false.

What I discovered in my psychoprophylactic course

I discovered that if you fed and hydrated serum need not get when you arrive at hospital.

I discovered that labor has several stages and it is not necessary run to less pain, even if either your date of birth.

I discovered that a trial of labor can last more than 12 hours.

I discovered that some annoyances or dangers during pregnancy can be caused by an infection in the urinary tract and analysts was very easy to know, ah but my doctor always sent me the same and a few days of rest before any discomfort. These drugs are only to stop contractions and lower the pressure, not to infection.

I discovered that if you take a warm bath and you get a tub you can relieve the discomfort of contractions.

I found I could demand that I give to my fresh out of my baby, even if caesarean section could also demand immediate contact.

So every Wednesday discovered a lot of things that were me and are still useful in childbirth and parenting now.

I had only one fear, rajarme at the last moment. My pain threshold of very low and although I resist much, also I squirm and complain a lot.

Doctor change at the last minute

The course followed every week and my doubts about my doctor increased rather than decreased. He doubted already told me everything. Although he had no clear intention to give birth in the water, I asked if I would serve like a water birth. He said that he does not like water deliveries and could be pending, but was not responsible.

Do not ask me why, but at that time I just thought "my will apply again and will end up being caesarean". This lasted a few months, and every week to leave the course reinforced my idea of changing doctor, because in the course discovered that there are procedures that are bringing you everything ended in cesarean section.

The last straw was when, in the course, they talked about the use of oxytocin to induce labor, then I realized that in the previous birth I put too much oxytocin and clear that when the kid kicked leave, I will procrastinating and therefore obvious, I had to do cesarean section because there were changes in the baby's heart rate. That did not happen again.

After that class played appointment again with the gynecologist and told him that he would not want anesthesia to what he just smiled and said "the going to ask loudly, but as you want, we'll see," or gave me the plane, literal. And if I send you some little injections to "strengthen the baby's lungs by anything."

That was the time when we became convinced that if we continued with that doctor, things were going to end up the same. Even before he had asked choices of doctors pro natural childbirth, as increasingly thought that phrase "if you want different results, do things differently", ergo, he could not go to a doctor who had a high rate of Caesarean sections in his name.

According to the due date missing nearly two months for the birth of the baby, so I said "now or never" and called the first doctor on my list of options, made an appointment and we turn excited.

As soon as I walked in the door I felt super comfortable with that warm man, smiling, friendly and above all, that gave me the tranquility of being on the same page about how I wanted my second child was born.

I do not even look for another medical option, Hugo gave us the certainty we needed and the necessary chemistry to move this important moment. Hugo just sent me to do some blood tests and an ultrasound. Everything turned out well and begin to see ourselves dates every 15 days.

Only one thing Hugo told me, "you have a previous cesarean section, there is a possibility that labor might tear the scar, in that case, no wonder I do a C-section, for you and the baby."

My second birth, another story

Things happened almost a month ago, I started having contractions a day before my review, Hugo sent me rest and a tablet, the next day I checked and said "is already head is already turned and bring 3 expansion. This girl and wants to leave, so next time you have contractions you go to the hospital. "

I felt an immense emotion, I left the office trembling. We went to pick up Mat, explained that the birth was imminent and we went home.

By then I felt strong but spaced contractions, advanced dates I had nothing prepared, or suitcase or anything!

Everything happened in about 6-7 hours, I asked to wash and dry out clothes for the hospital, the father ran to the supermarket for gatorade, diapers, a nightgown and do not know what else. I did the playlist at home and at some point got into the bathtub.

7 pm I called Hugo, I told him I already felt strong contractions, the indication was going to the hospital to "check on me." At 9 at night and I could not incorporate and asked Gabriel go to the hospital.

We did 25 minutes, the most painful of my life. Time I reached the hospital the contractions were every two and a half minutes! Along with Hugo, they were there perinatal my trainers, my angels, Mariana and La Guera.

Thanks to those three people whole story was different, in the end if I asked anesthesia, same that was applied responsibly and respecting my desire for a natural birth.

I was scared so much pain, I felt I was not going to reach the end, but there were always taking my hand and Mariana La Guera, never let me go, they told me what was happening and what was going to happen next.

At two hours of arriving at the hospital and wanted to bid, took me running to the operating room, La Guera took my hand and not let go until he arrived at the Mariana Gabriel shouted moment, you're crowning.

Three grunts and the girl came out, I put her in the chest and then the dried and dried snot and left me five minutes. They took off to weigh and measure. They wrapped and gave it to his dad.

I felt perfect, nothing hurt me, however. I felt full of energy and strength. Nothing like how I felt after the birth of Mat, no dizziness or jitters or cold or feeling sick.

I confess I had a slight feeling of failure for having asked anesthesia, but everyone told me it was not important, that the end had managed to give birth.

I know that without progress and without the company of Mariana and La Guera would not have achieved alone no. And for that I am eternally grateful, because I got the gift of giving birth to my first daughter, also to the second but that pregnancy is the story on Wednesday.

Anemia during pregnancy

The appearance of anemia during pregnancy is a common but rarely serious complication disorder. Its incidence varies widely depending on the criteria used for diagnosis.

What is anemia and what causes it?

Anemia is defined as decreasing the amount of hemoglobin or the protein carrier RBCs of oxygen in the blood. It is considered to have anemia during pregnancy when the amount of this blood protein is less than 11 grams per dl. Pregnancy is a condition which predisposes to a number of changes in the blood, mainly because it increases the amount of circulating fluid through the blood vessels, which causes a certain dilution of the blood and red blood cells. The most common forms of this mild anemia, are considered physiological, and therefore are not treated. The most important and common cause of anemia during pregnancy is iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia.

Iron deficiency anemia

Iron is an essential for the formation of mineral hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that performs the function of transporting oxygen through the blood to the various tissues of the mother and baby. Iron needs increase during pregnancy because of the increased volume of circulating blood, tissue formation baby and placenta and accumulates reserves the fetus. Women who do not have adequate iron stores before pregnancy need an iron supplement for not develop anemia.

A balanced diet that includes a variety of foods in a correct and proper ratio during pregnancy does not provide generally and against popular belief, the amounts of iron needed for gestation. The most iron-rich foods include green leafy vegetables (spinach), red meat (beef) and sausage (morcilla), legumes (lentils) and beef liver, lamb or beef. They are also very rich in iron clams, mussels and cockles. It is important to note that the iron from meat is better than the content in plant absorbs.

Often doctors prescribe a prenatal vitamin and mineral supplement to disregard the previous nutritional status and food consumption of women and because, as they increase both the needs, diet may not provide the necessary quantities. Administering oral iron, usually in the form of tablets or ampoules, it is one of the most relevant for antenatal iron deficiency anemia preventive actions. Usually it prescribed in the second half of pregnancy. These preparations intolerance occur frequently in the stomach, nausea, constipation and dark colored stool, which should know not to panic.

They are usually taken on an empty stomach because they are absorbed better and usually should be taking them for much of the pregnancy and even after childbirth, if the situation so dictates. As mentioned, it is the most common type of anemia during pregnancy and up to 9 out of 10 pregnant women may develop. It is characterized, as we have seen, by a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin in the blood that can be mild, moderate or even high.

How anemia occurs during pregnancy?

They are common symptoms such as tiredness or fatigue, pale skin and mucous membranes of the eyes and mouth, dizziness, difficulty breathing when moderate or large efforts are made, heart palpitations and tachycardia or rapid heartbeat . Effects on the fetus Mild or moderate anemia do not usually produce significant effects on the fetus, but in severe anemia (hemoglobin less than 7 g / dl) the fetus can be harmed and damaged. It has been found that in these cases increases the percentage of abortion or preterm delivery, perinatal mortality, puerperal infections, etc.

How is it diagnosed?

The diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy is relatively simple because after conducting a medical history of the patient and know their symptoms and signs, you can request an analysis of the ordinary blood that will indicate whether or not anemia and, if be present, if it is caused by iron deficiency or some other cause. Usually other tests are not necessary.

How is this disorder?

Treatment of this condition is logically administration deficient mineral, in this case iron. It is usually given in the form of ferrous salt by tablets or ampoules, generally from anemia diagnosed until it is resolved throughout gestation and often also in the postpartum period. In any case, as we noted before, preventive measures such as proper nutrition and extra iron supplements can prevent the onset of anemia.

Other anemias

Although the most common cause of anemia during pregnancy is iron deficiency, other types of anemia that highlight produced by a lack of vitamin B12 and called megaloblastic anemia because red blood cells become larger than normal. Treatment of this type of anemia is administration of vitamin B12, which should be done intramuscularly, ie, pricked, since vitamin B12 would be destroyed in the stomach if administráramos orally. There are other types of anemia varied (as produced by folic acid deficiency), thankfully rare and do not discuss in this article.

The sad moments after birth no one told me

When I got pregnant for the first time I remember that the issue of birth, birth place, the doctor, the name was what occupied my head. It never never occurred to me to think about what happens after birth?

With a head full of doubts about the great moment when I become mom, arrived a day expected, my first child was born by Caesarean section, he was taken for seven hours a nursery, nobody in the hospital helped me or told me something about breastfeeding. However, I was happy that everything "had gone well" at the end my baby and I were fine, safe and sound.

At that time I knew that everything could have been different, so I took things as they came without any concern. It was the most disciplined in everything they said my pediatrician and gynecologist at the time.

Two days later I left with my baby in her arms, happy and proud to have survived that better than I thought it might have been time. The good arrived that day at night and subsequent weeks, when my baby cried at night, on the day.

I did not know that babies had colic, the infant formula caused them constipation, did not know that newborns need to be in the arms of his mother, who are used to the constant movements, sounds heartbeat and bowels. And so when I left quietly and alone in his gutter he cried as loud.

Nevertheless, the help grandma and dad my son was bearable intense moments, however, a week everyone returned to normal, because mine have never seen.

Emotions passing me a second, I did not know what to do first, washing clothes, washing dishes, washing baby bottles, and so lulled the child all day. They gave me 5 and I uneaten.

She cried every day. She cried in the morning. She cried after lunch when I was alone again. She cried at night when Dad came and asked me how I was. She cried.

The worst was not mourn, I was feeling more alone than ever in my life and flawed, things that also made me mourn. And then I wondered why no one told me this was going to be. Why?

In all the magazines I read in the books, there came nothing difficult and complex it is, even with the best conditions, the postpartum period. Come on, nor women who had already been moms told me anything before.

Now as a mother of three and postnatal care consultant, I see many moms so different, but with one common denominator: the constant crisis postpartum period.

Most question whether these altered emotional states are normal, especially if someday will pass those blue days when nothing makes sense.

But the question is always the same why nobody told me so rough?

Doubts a new mom

Being a mother is living in the eternal question. In fact, since pregnancy we begin to emerge thousands of questions. One of the main undoubtedly is, "how do I care?".

This simple question is much deeper than it seems at first glance, because it involves emotions, physical care and all the logistics involved in having a baby in charge.

When the baby is still in our belly it is impossible to stop thinking things like "know recognize his cry when hungry or when it hurts something?". "What if I drop water when bathing?". "How do you put a diaper?".

These and many other questions haunt our head as the pregnancy progresses, but it gets even worse when we face the reality in the face: when we have the creature bawling after having been on the boob a good time. Or when it's two o'clock and found no reason for the inconsolable crying, after changing diapers, fed him, rocking him back and give him food.

Usually, after a few days of being at home with our baby, we begin to convince us that something we are doing wrong, because not fit in our head the possibility that it is normal for a baby to cry as much, or you want to eat every time, or prefer the calientitos arms and bobbing his mother to the lonely, cold bed.

Les I have news ladies: they are not doing anything wrong. Babies cry, and some cry a lot. For some, too, it is unbearable separated from his mother or father; just they perceive them away and ... what do you think? They cry. there is also babies who ask boob every half hour, every hour or every 45 minutes.

It is important to know that their babies do not always cry because of hunger, or because you are doing something wrong, crying babies is the only language they have to express their needs and those needs may also be emotional, that is, does not like being alone is cold or is desperate because you can not sleep. Even the need to suck is not always hungry, it is simply that the suction calm his anxiety; so just stick them to the teat fall asleep. What that sounds like a hickey? Yes it is.

It is essential to be clear that a newborn is that it is not a mature person ... come on, not even a child can talk and express what you feel or what you need. A baby needs us 100% 24 hours a day.

It is normal to have doubts, okay you feel that maybe something we are not doing it correctly, but that is because they are things we'd never done. In these cases it is worth asking, who call us to clarify doubts and, above all, give us peace; that's what most needs a mother with a baby just unwrapping: safety in their role as mothers.

The news of pregnancy

I was scared, but I was very aware that something was growing inside me.

Nausea, dizziness sulky and became increasingly present. I did not know what to do or what to think.

I was afraid ... I knew I was able to take care of myself, but a Baby? Was I ready to be a mom? Never in my life had I felt ready.

I knew nothing of motherhood, was very nervous and doubtful in my head.

I decided to become the ultimate test, so I went for a blood test and while awaiting the outcome gone through my head a million things ... Your name, your gender, our house, my job, return to Monterrey or would stay in DF , my work, my dreams, your dad ...

After 15 minutes with a smile on his face the doctor confirmed to me the result.

We decided that we would give to the news at Christmas with all the family together.

On December 25 in the afternoon we told the family, your daddy took care to record all the details with a camera called GO PRO.

Everyone was super super happy, your grandparents, your uncles and your cousins.
The news we released through a box where we wrapped a tennis and a Mameluke.
It was an extremely emotional time.

Although I would not spend the time to stop and took the opportunity to also record it to him ... 'kept not mourn !!

Since that time, my chip changes, I knew my life would never be the same, everything would change, from my plans, dreams, projects, priorities. She was willing to meet you and love you with all my heart.
