Air Purifier’s Role in Preventing Asthma Attacks

Environmental researchers have shown that the indoor room air we breathe in is more contaminated that the outside air.  In fact the air we breathe while at home or at work is polluted and it is the reason we fall sick so easily.

The best way to solve this problem is to get an air purifier.  Air purifiers can be helpful to people suffering from allergies and asthma caused by mold spores, pet dander, microorganisms, bacteria and pollen grains.   Biological and chemical pollutants like mold, viruses, bacteria, allergens, cigarette smoke, construction dust, pet odors and diesel fumes and other airborne contaminants can be destroyed by using an ultra violet air purifiers.

Asthma is a disease that is characterized by breathing problems caused by the narrowing of the airways (bronchi and bronchioles) that lead to the lungs.

Persons Affected:

Asthma occurs in 3 to 5 percent (%) of all people at some point in their life.  It affects all age groups and sexes equally, except for newborn babies.

Symptoms:

Breathlessness and a wheezing cough that usually get worse at night are the main symptoms of asthma.  During a severe attack, the pulse rises and breathing rate increases drastically and the person is not able to speak due to breathlessness.  Cyanosis, which is when the skin turns blue due to the lack of oxygen, may occur.

Causes:

The most common cause of asthma is bronchiole hypersensitivity to foreign substances in the air.  Pollens, animal fur, smoke, smog, cigarette smoke, ozone, perfumes, hairsprays, and air borne pollutants like vehicle emissions, etc. are some of the foreign substances that can trigger an asthma attack.  Due to the increase smoke levels in the cities there has been a worldwide increase in the number of asthma patients.

The usual cause is bronchiole hypersensitivity to foreign substances in the air. The foreign substance could be pollens, air borne pollutants like vehicle emissions, animal fur, smoke, smog, cigarette smoke, ozone, perfumes, hairspray etc. There is a worldwide increase in the number of asthma patients due to increase in the smoke levels in the cities.

Treatment & Role of Air Purifiers:

Asthma treatment involves day to day management to avoid asthma attack triggers.  Most people spend the majority of their time indoors, breathing purified clean air can help in preventing asthma attack triggers.  Air purifiers work by removing environmental triggers such as smoke, smog, and other airborne allergen pollutants.

People cannot avoid being exposed to air pollutants, however one can control the environment in one’s home or office.  Also an air purifies provides clean air which is a relief to the lungs of an asthmatic and allows them to breathe easier.  Air purifiers which produce ozone should be avoided because the ozone may trigger an asthma attack instead of reducing the risk of having an asthma attack.
