Yoga the Answer to Sleep Deprivation

There are so many reasons why people suffer from sleep deprivation and for this very same problem that so many so called cures have evolved through the years. Obviously, there is no one cure because we should always take into consideration the cause of the lack of sleep before we can actually apply the remedy. But there is one prevailing solution which has really benefited a lot of people and is continuously growing although we can say that the growth have been slow despite its effectiveness.

I am referring to the art of Yoga which had been practiced by the earliest civilization and yet after considering its effectiveness than any other methods in the cure of sleep deprivation, the followers have a slow growth rate.

Generally speaking, Yoga is a very easy procedure that requires both body and mind to attain the maximum benefits. In starting a yoga class, the instructor sees to it that beginners undergo the beginner’s course. It is essential that each level is taken gradually as the student progress to advanced stages. This ascertains the complete understanding of terminologies, proper breathing techniques, correct posture and complete and timely meditation.

Proper stretching method to attain a specific posture relaxes the muscles allowing proper distribution of blood that will oxygenate the entire body. Oxygen is the source of life. If our body parts acquire the required oxygen level, our organs and tissue will function to its fullest. Thus, this will result to strong body that can ward off and fight various diseases.

To acquire the proper method of a specific pose, we need concentration, desire and sensitivity to our own feelings as we perform each task. Unlike some exercises, force and effort is not required in Yoga and movements are usually performed slowly and with grace. It is not due to force that you will perspire but rather through deep breathing and stretching where you will feel the burning of your fats. For some, Yoga has been an alternative method for weight loss.

During Yoga, the body is relaxed through the poses that are being attained while the breathing technique which is done simultaneous with the poses allows our mind to relax as we keep our focus on the activities performed. In one Yoga session, after some routine, there is the meditation portion wherein each student is required to perform the breathing exercise then followed by more advanced routine and meditation at the end part.

With my personal experience in Yoga, on the night after my very first Yoga class I already noticed a significant effect on my sleeping habits. Previously, I wake up at night at least 3 to 4 times for no apparent reason. But on that night, I had a straight or continuous sleep. And upon waking up I feel relaxed and not sleepy at all unlike the previous days where I feel like going back to bed.

As I daily practice Yoga, I am more in control on my movements and decisions, I am also less irritated and respond to situations lightly or calmly and best of all I have an uninterrupted sleep. No waking up for no reason, no more persistent dreams and nightmares, no more feeling of discomfort of the surrounding if there is at all. And, upon waking up, I completely feel the benefit of my good night rest. I feel rejuvenated and active and have a good disposition throughout the day.

I was curious if the other students in the class felt the same way and to my amazement all of us have positive experiences and more, but the most common in our group is that we are no longer deprived of the complete and proper sleep.
