The practice of physical activity is a habit more than recommended because its benefits are many and at many levels. Heart, vascular system, respiratory system and many more are the beneficiaries of staying active.
In general, it can be seen that there are few methods or disciplines that may eventually adversely affect the body so but sometimes it is. Is due to the very anatomy of the individual or the intrinsic technical sport, there are situations that can trigger the onset of symptoms associated with certain diseases or specific injuries.
Anatomically, women and men have certain differences and it is these that determine that each gender has a certain predisposition or suffer problems associated with the existence of genes loa "XX" or "XY" genes.
Male health issues and their relationship to sport
For men, prostate and genitals usually anatomical structures that are affected by the practice of certain types of sports. One of the disciplines most related problems is eminently male cycling.
The most likely cause is the compression exerted on the perineum and concretely in the space between the anal area and the scrotal sac. For this region pass vessels and nerves that innervate and irrigate the penis and therefore directly involved in erectile function of the male member. One of those nerves is the pudendal nerve whose involvement is known as neuropathy of the pudendal nerve.
While the cyclist is seated on the saddle pressure to which is subjected the nerve and vessels prevent proper blood flow exists that can cause acute symptoms such as:
- Feeling of "numbness" in the area of the scrotum
- Pain
- Increased sensitivity
But there are also more chronic and erectile problems, but can be reversed if the cause is sought and remedy sets.
Amarenco et al in 1987 and published a study in which cycling with erection problems are related. A few years later in 1991 he was Silbert et al which endorsed the same relationship.
But not for the fact of being an active person and pedaling this pathology will suffer irreparably. The bicycle is a risk factor, if it can be called, to be added to other more specific weight such as overweight, smoking .
The solution is to use a seat which is softer and wider than usual, avoid uneven ground and if this is the case put on the pedals with your legs extended but with some bending, if possible.
