Comfort and Safety During Your Hospital Stay

Almost everyone ends up having to spend some time in a hospital at some point in their life. Whether you’re going in for an appendectomy or you’re having major surgery, there are many things that are important to you during your stay. Comfort and sanitization are the most crucial things to think about in a hospital environment. Both are important to not only your happiness, but also to your safety.

Options and Accommodations to keep you Comfy

During your hospital stay you have lost the ability to relax at home. Having a comfortable hospital environment is an important thing to keep you happy. Most hospitals have more pillows than you could ever need in each room. They have a bed that is adjustable so that you can lay or sit however you like. The thermostat adjusts temperature only in your room so that you can have the temperature set to whatever is most comfortable to you instead of having to deal with whatever temperature the hospital staff finds satisfactory. Your meals are brought right to you so you don’t have to try to stumble to the cafeteria. There is a bathroom in every room so you don’t have to share with the whole wing. That way there’s no waiting and it is sure to be clean when you use it. They normally leave plenty of comfortable chairs for your family and friends to use when they come to visit and some even have furniture that turns into a bed if you’d like someone to stay with you overnight. Your stay will be almost as good as being in your own home!

A Clean and Sterile Environment

Nothing could be worse than an unsanitary hospital environment. With sick people going in and out and infections lounging around in the beds that everyone else has to use, it is indescribably important to have a sanitary environment and sanitized tools. Hospitals wash all sheets, towels, blankets and pillow cases in bleach after each use. Basically everything anyone comes in contact with is sterilized immediately after use so as not to spread germs to other patients. Surgical tools also need to be sterilized. These tools are probably the most important things in the entire hospital to be cleaned properly. Surgical tools go through a process called electro polishing. This procedure removes all grooves on the metals surface and also gets rid of the hydrogen on the tools. Because the metal is perfectly smooth, bacteria can’t thrive in any crevices that might be missed during a cleaning. In addition, the lack of hydrogen helps fight off bacteria because hydrogen is almost always present in bacteria growth. Using these measures as well as sterilizing the tools after use keeps you safe from bacteria and germs from other surgical procedures that took place before yours.

Nobody has ever described staying in a hospital as a vacation in paradise. It isn’t near as nice as staying at home, but the hospital takes measures to keep your comfortable and safe. Staying comfy is pretty easy with all of the accommodations the hospital tries to make for you. They also keep you safe by cleaning everything thoroughly. From the bed sheets to the surgical tools, everything is sanitized to keep you free of other people’s bacteria. While it’s not home, try to enjoy your next stay at a hospital as much as you can.
